Overview

Pulmonary  Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant

*Full time - Monday thru Friday - No weekends and No on call responsibilities*

 

The Pulmonary / Critical Care group is a progressive and technologically innovative group.  Our friendly and collegial practice works with multispecialty interdisciplinary teams to enhance care and patient satisfaction.  The plan of care is devleoped and implemented that reflects the needs and goals of the patient.  Physicians will train/mentor the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant and there is always an available provider on-site. You will work in a team based care environment and will work with highly qualified support staff and physicians.  Our well established COPD Disease Management Program provides comprehensive COPD care management and care coordination for a specific panel of enrolled patients.  We have a treatment room: staffed by experienced Pulmonary nurses for management of acute Pulmonary conditions.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Takes history, including chief complaint, presenting illness, past medical history and interval history
  • Orders lab studies and imaging when indicated. Identifies differential diagnosis and assesses severity of patient’s illness and establishes need/time for patient evaluation
  • Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings in the history and physical in order to establish a diagnosis. Performs tests and procedures as directed by diagnosis
  • Consults with other health team members regarding proposed treatment guidelines as necessary - Implements plan in safe and effective manner. Utilizes sound judgment in the establishment of priorities in patient’s care and management. Records visit in concise, clear, logical manner
  • Evaluates need and/or time for follow-up and document that 
  • Makes and arranges appropriate referrals when necessary 
  • Evaluates effectiveness of previously implemented medical treatment
  • Develops and provides educational materials and/or programs to patients, families, and healthcare professionals

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant experience required;  Pulmonary experience preferred, but not required
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Graduate of an Accredited Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant Program, Masters level preferred
  • Must have National Board Certification
  • Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts board of registration in Nursing
  • Maintains BLS certification, professional certification as appropriate
  • Knowledge of various software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and problem solving skills are required
